Pixwell Gooseberry is an almost thornless plant, making picking their green fruit slightly easier. Each gooseberry bush produces large, oval, green berries that become blushing pink berries in mid-summer when ripe and ready for eating. Gooseberries are delicious in pies and jellies. Gooseberries also produce fruit on old wood. Double-check first if your state allows people to grow gooseberries, whether commercially or at home. Planting gooseberries, whether they’re the European gooseberry variety or American gooseberries, was prohibited since they were potential hosts of white pine blister rust. Now, most gooseberry varieties are disease-resistant, and most states have lifted the ban.
