Snake Gourd is a tropical vegetable that thrives in hot temperatures. It grows on a climbing vine. Snake Gourd tend to curl as they grow, and must be trellised and weighted at the end of the fruit, in order for them to grow straight. In Asia, it is eaten immature as a vegetable much like the summer squash and in Africa, the reddish pulp of mature snake gourd is used as an economical substitute for tomato.[2] Common names for the cultivated variety include snake gourd, serpent gourdchichinda, padwal and Snake Tomato
